Governor's Speech

It is a pleasure to distribute prizes to student’s honour, the dedicated persons of Chennai Group of Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Mandalis and address this distinguished gathering here today. Prayer is a special skill. It has to be learnt and practiced and should be a part of once daily routine. It refines one: Leads to positive thinking: brings in peace of mind and leads one to a moral life.

All religious guide mankind towards the path of truthful living. Meditation, Yoga, Chanting of mantras and reciting slokas or versus from the Bible or Quran evoke the inner feeling and steers the people towards the path of good conduct and character: creates in a spirit of compassion: builds in the habit of sharing and giving.

India is known for its rich tradition, culture and is a home to many religious. We are proud to say that we belong to the tradition and the civilization which had led a moral, true and disciplined way of life. Let us carry these values and sprit of character throughout our life and pass it on to the generations to come.

I commend the initiatives taken by the Chennai Group of Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Mandalis for organizing the “Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam” mass chanting by school children every month. I am sure that this will cultivate good habits build in them the practice of praying and make them the people of moral conduct and character.

I am told that today morning “Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam” was chanted by nearly 65,000 children at various schools in Chennai. We all know “Sahasram” means thousand and “Namam” means the names. Lord Mahavishnu only has thousand names and each name has got different meanings with moral messages to mankind.

In the earlier days, parents ensured that their children start chanting “His” Divya Namam during leading a righteous life, thereby climbing the peak of knowledge and wisdom. It was really a “Vedantic quest”. The efforts taken by Chennai Group of Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Mandalis of all India Vishnu Sahasranama Cultural Federation to organize “Children’s Day Special Parayanam” jointly with Sri Krishna Sweets deserve a special mention. It is a pleasant surprise to note that about 65,000 children from 15 group of schools have participated in this spiritual programme.

Our ancient history reveals that our forefathers led a peaceful life with Bhakthi Spiritualism, Discipline, Dignity, integrity and above all lived in unity and peace. We should also strive hard to follow their way of life.

I convey my warm felicitations to Shri. T.J. Sridharan and the members of the Chennai Group of Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Mandalies of All India Vishnu Sahasranama Cultural Federation, Shri Murali, Managing Director, Krishna Sweets the vedic scholars, principals, teachers, children and to all those who have been associated in organizing the mass chanting of Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam.

My greetings to all of you. Jai Hind.
